Fall races, belated

Due to technical difficulties with the internet connection, posts have been delayed.  Here is a quick re-hash of the fall races:

The CLUB running Austin in!

Shawano Invite:  15 of our runners placed in the top 20!  Will Chelberg was the first boy to cross the finish line; and sister Grace was the first girl.

At Pine Hills Golf Course

Menominee Great Bear race:  We brought home first place trophies for boys and girls teams!

Oconto Falls Invite:  We placed 2 runners in the top 5, and 5 boys in the top 20.  Grace again was the first girl to cross the finish.  This was a race of grades 3-6.

The WINNERS!

Thanks to a great season!

End of season party!

We finished the season with another obstacle run, of course, but no couches, TV's or parents in camp chairs this year shooting marshmallows, just hay bales and pumpkins.  Awards were given out to runners who showed extra effort and courage (because it's not easy to come into a group of such talented and seasoned runners):  Mason Ballwahn, Cooper Boucher, Aydan Bystol, Rachel Carrol, Bailey Hendricks, Grant and Thomas Keszo, Macey and Riley Krueger, Madalyn Moesch, Kody Popelka, Kiernan Sheldon, Ryan Schwitzer, Bradyn Wendorff.

The following runners showed persistent effort include:  Andon and Connor Chelberg, Maci and Warner Beyer, Josiah Kuehl, Derek Minch, Trinity Popelka, Anderson Schmidt.

Awards for most incredible improvement in race times this year went to Piper Novitski and Austin Brandt.  Both cut 3 or more minutes from each of the races this year!

The Flying High award, for runners who showed the most dedication and admirable sportsmanship, setting great examples for the rest of the team, went to Will and Grace Chelberg.

We will be taking a break from meeting after school until the spring.  In the meantime, runners are encouraged to cross train and enjoy other sports, and to take advantage of the morning "Walking" Club Tuesdays through Thursdays.  (Jogging is NOT forbidden at the Walking Club!)

Join us at the Barn Quilt 5k!

Image result for barn quilts

Hi folks!  We would like to invite you to join us at the Shawano Pathways Barn quilt 5k run/walk on Sat 9/24 at 9:40 am at Memorial Park. Through a generous gift, club kids can enter as a group, and participate in this event for FREE!  There will be food and games and jumpy house.  We encourage kids to try to collect pledges and bring to the event, which goes towards SAM 25 emergency shelter, Boys and Girls Club and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.  We will hand out entry forms this coming week at practice, which kids need to RETURN TO US at practice by Wed 9/21, so we can register as a group together.  We will also hand out the pledge forms, which need to be back day of the race.  This is an untimed, noncompetitive event.

We do not have school or practice on Friday 9/23, so this would be a good practice run before the Shawano Invite, our first race, on Monday 9/26.  We plan to start easy at this 5k, then run about 2 miles, then "cool down" for the last mile.  Believe it or not, I suspect most kids have been running this type of distance already during our practices past week!

Please come show support for these wonderful community organizations!  Wear your team shirts (which should be in this coming week!)

You can find more information about the race at www.shawanopathways.org

Parent meeting notes

 Image result for missed meeting

In case anyone missed the parent meeting on Friday afternoon (and I started a few minutes early), here is a quick run down:

1)  Absences:  please encourage your runner to attend all practices if at all possible, to prepare for the races.

2)  Proper clothing:  dress for the weather (heat, rain, wind, and we'll leave it at that).  If your runner shows up with flip flops or heels, he or she will not be permitted to run.  Instead, we will assign another task such as maintaining the school yard, etc.

3)  Water bottle:  It may be difficult to get back into the school building to get water after we exit.  Please have your runner bring a bottle.  We will remind kids to fill up; and use bathroom, before we exit the building.

4)  Waiver form and athletic code form:  please return all forms by second practice, Wed 9/7; otherwise your child will not be allowed to practice with us.  DO GO OVER THE ATHLETIC CODE CAREFULLY WITH YOUR RUNNER, AND MAKE NOTE OF THE 3 WARNING AND YOU'RE OUT SYSTEM.

5)  Shirt order:  please return with payment by Wed 9/7.

6)  Pick up time is 4:30.  We need to finish stretching, and go over announcements or other educational topics, after we run.  Please do not disperse before everyone is dismissed together.  If you have special circumstances, please email me (yuchinfang@yahoo.com) ahead of time.

7)  Buddy system:  we are encouraging kids to run with at least one other for safety, and look out for each other.

What's new with Brener Running Club this fall?

We are part of Shawano Community Education this fall!  You can find us on the Community Ed website, via http://www.shawanoschools.com/communityed/index.cfm.  Sign ups can be done online right on the website, starting Monday Aug 15; via printed forms in the Shawano Community Education magazine; or in person in their office.

There will be a nominal $12/runner charge, with a family maximum, to cover cost of bus rides to the meets, water and snack.

Every runner will have to sign and acknowledge an Athletic Code, adapted from the Middle School athletics department.  We would like to enforce a 3 warning system, and be able to dismiss anyone who is not respectful of volunteer helpers or other runners.

We will start practice after school Friday 9/2, and have a brief meeting at 4:30 with parents, to go over expectations and answer any questions.  We will be practicing Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, until Friday Oct 14.

Our 3 meets this fall are:
Shawano Invite, Monday Sep 26, at Middle School;
Great Bear Run, Tuesday Oct 4, at Pine Hills Golf Course in Gresham;
Oconto Falls Invite, Thursday Oct 13, at Oconto Falls High School.

Also please consider supporting the Choose to Move 5k at the fair on Thursday Sep 1; the Shawano Pathways 5k and 10k on Saturday Sep 24.

And parents, please come help in any way, shape, or form you can!!

See you soon with your running shoes on!

Party time!

Today was our last day to run together this spring.  It was a BLAST!!!  It was as much fun for us setting up the sprinklers, water balloons, water blasters, slip and slide, as for the kids to run the course in the 86 degree weather.

Everyone anxiously waiting to run through the sprinkler.

Alec Montour sliding to finish.
The top 3 boys and girls won clay medals made by Mrs. Flaherty.
1.  Will Chelberg          1.  Grace Chelberg
2.  Andon Chelberg       2.  Trinity Popelka
3.  Ethan Onesti           3.  Sarah Carroll

The following outstanding runners received award certificates from Cobbler's Closet.

For Best Example, the winners were Andon Chelberg and Derek Minch.
