Hillcrest kids at starting line

The Middle School kids put up the spider webs in the woods

Jessie Hanssen, Barry Bubolz, John Arens and Jamaican Monkey (Onesti's) as obstacles

71 kids grades Headstart to 8th ran the 0.8 mile obstacle race as our end of the season party.  We were very lucky that the field and woods dried out for us, and the sun even peeked out a little.

Yes, DO jump on the couch!

Grant Keszo and Josiah Kuehl finishing
Many kids completed the post-race QUIZ as they munched on snacks and treats. The winner(s) will be posted on blog soon. Quiz was based on the race:  What obstacles to fitness did you see on the course?  Can you think of other common obstacles to exercise?

Winners are:

Lane Bonde, 5th grade.  His answers: TV, broken bones, cold weather, hammocks, violence, candy/junk food, pizza, couch, rough roads, giving up.  And other obstacles to having a regular exercise routine:  time, and friends that don't exercise.

Hailey Rancier, 5th grade.  Her answers:  jumping over hurdles, being afraid, having to crush cans, pushing myself tired, objects being shot at me, having people cheering me, going through playground, figuring out how to go around things/hammock.

And congrats to Anderson Schmidt.  His name was drawn at random for having turned in a feedback form regarding the coaches and running club.

BIG THANKS to all the parents who helped out with setting up and taking down, providing prizes and snacks, and to older siblings of club kids from middle school and high school, and many of the Shawano High School XC team for coming over to help!  And thanks to an Action Team grant from Thrivent, we were able to purchase some of the snacks and beverages, pumpkins, hay, and various decorations and supplies for the event.  We raised $59 for SAM 25, emergency shelter to open next week in Shawano!

Oconto Falls Results

We were lucky that it rained BEFORE we arrived and raced, though it was challenging given the wet, slippery grass, and wind!  There were 187 runners in the youth race grade 6 and under.  3 of our runners were in the top 20 and got medals.  We raced against some big kids from big schools such as Peshtigo, Denmark, Marinette, and smaller schools Menominee Tribal and Keshena.

If we were slightly off on the later third of the list, we apologize!  They ran out of number cards and some kids did not remember their places!
